Sealed Air nabs U.K.'s Dolphin.(Brief Article)

Sealed Air Corp. is expanding its modified-atmosphere packaging business in Europe with a $119 million cash deal to buy Dolphin Packaging plc. Poole, England-based Dolphin makes thermoformed trays that use gases and barrier materials to package case-ready meat, home meals and prepared convenience foods.

Sealed Air makes MAP trays and film in the United States, but not in the United Kingdom. Analysts said the ability to manufacture in Europe is a major attraction of the acquisition. Lloyd Widom, an analyst for Credit Suisse First Boston Corp. in New York, said the European market for MAP containers already is ahead of the United States', "making sense for [Sealed Air] to go there," he said.
