Automakers: TPOs will dominate interiors.(Brief Article)

DEARBORN, MICH. -- Automakers anxious to cut back on the variety of plastics on cars say they can picture the day when thermoplastic polyolefins take over the interior. But when -- or if -- that happens depends on whether suppliers come up with blends that not only meet molding and design needs but also can compete with other plastics on price.

"Over the next five years, we have a plan in place to replace PVC in the interior," Ford Motor Co. product development engineer Laura Soreide told suppliers during the Society of Plastics Engineers' Automotive TPO Global Conference 2000 Oct. 3 in Dearborn.
