Huntsman cutting 700 jobs; closing PP line.

Huntsman Corp. is closing a 60 million-pound-capacity polypropylene line in Odessa, Texas, as part of a program that will cut 700 jobs companywide and save the Salt Lake City firm at least $125 million a year. The line, opened in 1964, makes de-ashed PP for use in medical products and containers, food packaging and electrical components.

It is the smallest of Huntsman's PP lines. ``With the closing of [the line] we now have made the necessary changes at Odessa,'' Monte Edlund, Huntsman polymers vice president, said in a news release. ``Our remaining operations here are strong and viable.''
