Alcoa exiting prefab arena, closing plant.(vinyl extrusion plant)(Brief Article)

Alcoa Building Products Inc. is shuttering its Princeville, Ill., vinyl extrusion plant, blaming weakness in the manufactured housing industry as parent company Alcoa Inc. lays off 6,500 internationally. The Princeville move, announced Nov. 19, means Alcoa Building Products will exit the manufactured housing market, officials said.

The plant employed 250, said John LaFevre, vice president of human resources. ``The manufactured housing market brings with it significant challenges to generate acceptable returns and is not strategic for Alcoa Building Products,'' said Gary Acinapura, president of the Sidney, Ohio-based firm, in a news release. ``We will be focusing our efforts on wholesale distribution and making strategic acquisitions.''
