Magnets getting grip on molders.(magnetic mold-holding systems)

Ultrafast mold change is the tantalizing promise of magnetic mold-holding systems, but whether the technology sweeps through the injection molding industry depends on convincing people like Lonnie Hines. Today, Hines is a true believer that magnets can safely hold up massive molds on an injection molding machine.

The magnets cut the time for a mold change on a 3,000-ton press to about an hour, compared with six hours using bolts and clamps, he said. Suppliers say 10-minute mold changes are not uncommon for smaller molds.
