Hoping for clear skies; GE Plastics shores up Habitat homes to keep out Gulf Coast storms.

Things are looking up for a Gulf Coast neighborhood that received free storm shutters made from GE Plastics' clear Lexan polycarbonate sheet. GE of Pittsfield, Mass., and manufacturer Lookout Shutters Inc. of Calhoun, Ga., teamed up to donate 600 storm panels and supply the volunteer time to install them at Jordan's Crossing, a Habitat for Humanity housing development in Sarasota, Fla.
As part of Project Clear Haven, 76 new homeowners received the clear-panel shutters, which keep storms out but let daylight in. GE says the panels are easy to install and meet code approvals for the area's high-velocity hurricane zone.
