Standards developed for spacecraft adhesives.

Spacecraft adhesives are the subject of new standards from the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), West Conshohocken, Pa. The standards for specialized epoxy and silicone rubber have been developed by ASTM members from NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Calif. The standards list test methods and requirements for adhesives that traveled to Mars on the Pathfinder mission in 1997.

D6411 is the Standard Specification for Silicone Rubber Room Temperature Vulcanizing Low Outgassing Materials. This covers the space-grade RTV silicone rubber compound that bonds metallic and nonmetallic materials on spacecraft.
