Joseph Goldstein receives Sorby Award.(Brief Article)

Dr. Joseph I. Goldstein, FASM, dean of engineering, University of Massachusetts at Amherst, has won the 1999 Henry Clifton Sorby Award. This award is the highest honor bestowed by IMS. Goldstein received his Sc.D, S.M., and B.S. degrees in metallurgy from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1964, 1962, and 1960, respectively.

He served on the faculty at Lehigh University for 25 years. During this time, he compiled a distinguished record of research and educational contributions in the area of materials science and engineering, especially in the fields of electron microscopy, solid-state diffusion, X-ray analysis, and extraterrestrial materials analysis.
