A powder metallurgy titanium-base intermetallic composite with good fracture toughness has reportedly been developed by researchers at the National Research Institute for Metals, Japan. The information was reported at the TMS Light Metals Conference, Feb. 12-15, 2001. Mainly an orthorhombic beta phase, the matrix has composition Ti-22A1-27Nb, with 6.5% [TiB.sub.2] particles as reinforcement.
