A global legacy with humble beginnings On a cobblestone side street in the heart of Copenhagen, Holger F. Struer started his Chemiske Laboratorium in a small storefront in 1875. A scientist at heart, Struer's passion was performing chemical analyses in the laboratory. As the business grew, Holger hired chemist Marius Grubb in the 1890s.

However, Holger became ill and sold the company to Marius and two co-workers in 1914. Marius bought them out and became the sole owner in 1916. Marius had two sons, Kjeld and Bendt, who joined him to run the business. The company prospered, and by the 1930s it was a leading laboratory equipment supplier.
