Aircraft ductwork made of multiple layers of an extruded polyester film with nylon rod reinforcement weighs about 30% less than conventional urethane/nylon and silicone/fiberglass ductwork, according to manufacturer Flexfab LLC, Hastings, Mich. The material allows the ductwork to have much thinner walls, thus cutting as much as 50% of the weight.
