GM expands lost foam aluminum casting capacity.

A $160 million investment by General Motors recently has brought lost foam aluminum casting technology to its Powertrain Manufacturing plant in Defiance, Ohio. Its "first pour" of aluminum engine castings was achieved this summer. The two million square-foot facility now produces cast aluminum blocks and heads for the new Vortec inline four-cylinder and five-cylinder engines, in addition to continuing its production of cast iron engine parts.
