Texaco, Energy Conversion Devices form advanced batteries venture Widespread commercial production of advanced nickel metal hydride batteries is the goal of a recent strategic alliance between Texaco and Energy Conversion Devices Inc. (ECD). The new venture, called Texaco Ovonic Battery Systems, plans to rapidly expand manufacturing facilities in Kettering, Ohio, and development facilities in Troy, Mich.

The purpose of the joint venture is to develop nickel metal hydride (NiMH) batteries for nonautomotive, as well as automotive applications.
