A CVD polycrystailine diamond coating for carbide cutting tools improves performance and extends life when cutting graphite, green ceramics, composites, plastics, and nonferrous alloys, reports Diamond Tool Coating, North Tonawanda, N.Y. Called DiaMon, the coating is said to extend tool life by 10 to 20 times, and in some cases by as much as 50 times, over uncoated tools.
