Friction stir welding joins primary aircraft structures.

Friction stir welding technology has been selected to fabricate the primary structures of all Eclipse 500 jet aircraft, announces Eclipse Aviation, Oshkosh, Wis. This is said to be the first time that FSW has joined primary aircraft structures, and represents a pioneering development in the joining of materials as thin as aircraft aluminum.
