The United States is blessed with an abundance of natural resources, from oil and coal to iron and gold, but these abundant resources do not guarantee the existence of cars and planes, dishwashers and computers. These can come only from the efforts of engineers, entrepreneurs, and industrialists, smart risk-takers who are willing to put their energy and wealth to work to produce steel from rocks, computer chips from sand, and energy from oil.
