A high-temperature nylon thermoplastic has replaced cast aluminum in a charge-air cooler end tank developed by Carlisle Engineered Products, Chardon, Ohio, for the Ford 7.3-liter Power Stroke diesel V-8 engine. The nylon tank weighs nearly 40% less than the aluminum tank, while reducing assembly costs and boosting performance of the charge-air-cooler system.
