Innovations and investments by several companies signal expanding commercial interest in wind energy in the United States. Shell WindEnergy Inc., with a goal of advancing wind energy from experimental to commercial scale, recently brought online a 50-megawatt wind farm in Wyoming. American Electric Power recently completed and began commercial operations at the fourth largest wind farm in the United States, a 150-megawatt project near Abilene, Texas.
