A hard, thin, dense chrome coating with a micronodular surface texture has been developed to protect a wide range of tools and components. Known as TDC (thin dense chrome), the coating is applied in a chemical bath by means of a proprietary process. TDC has a hardness of 78 HRC; another coating, known as XADC, features the inclusion of synthetic nano-diamond to the TDC bath, resulting in hardness of 98 HRC.
