Robin M. Forbes Jones * The technical trend in the design of land-based gas turbines for electrical power production is toward higher firing temperatures to raise thermodynamic efficiency. Simultaneously, larger turbines are being designed to achieve higher power output. The concurrent technical trend in metals is toward increasingly complex alloys for better performance at higher temperatures.
