Currently available carbonate fuel cell materials have acceptable performance and endurance for commercialization. Many app roaches have been identified that may extend life well beyond the current 40,000 hours and achieve further cost reductions. Fuel cells are highly efficient and environ mentally clean sources of power that are based on electrochemical reactions rather than combustion.
