July 2942: Glad to learn that the National Academy of Sciences has formulated a War Metallurgy Committee to advise the Army, Navy and other government agencies on special metallurgical problems, and to plan and supervise definite research projects for either war materials or armaments, and hopeful that such work may get under way without further delay, for in such matters as armor, guns and projectiles am convinced that it would be better for us to discover the new alloys and treatments and surprise Hitler than vice versa.
