Ultrasound phased arrays that allow 10 to 50 times faster inspection of complex parts than conventional technology is reported to be possible with equipment from R/D Tech, Waltham, Mass. Ultrasound beams generated by conventional probes have fixed angles, focal distances, and focal point sizes, and typically require several different transducers.
