Defects in metal alloys and semiconductor crystals caused by bubbles that solidify from the melt are subjects of the materials science experiments that are to be carried out on the International Space Station, reports NASA Marshall Space Flight Center, Huntsville, Ala.. The Space Shuttle Endeavour is to deliver two novel furnaces and more than 20 ampoules filled with material samples for materials science experiments.
