Surface engineering is a rapidly growing field with multidisciplinary R&D roots and broad commercial applications. ASM and several other professional societies have been providing technical programming and publications in the field for a number of years. However, recent surveys and other studies by ASM have discovered a lack of focus on the applied or practical engineering aspects of surface science and engineering in virtually all of the current conferences of the various professional societies.
