A powder metallurgy stainless steel with room-temperature load-bearing strength three times greater than its conventionally processed counterpart has reportedly been developed by the Idaho National Engineering and Environmental Laboratory, Idaho Falls, Idaho. Called Stainless Steel Plus (SSP), enhanced properties are developed by carefully controlling the amounts of carbon, nitrogen, and oxygen during the melting and atomization stage of processing.
