A nanotechnology-based solid lubricant made of nested spheres of inorganic compounds has reportedly been developed by Applied Nano-Materials, Israel. Designated Nano-Lub, the particles lubricate "by rolling like miniature ball bearings." In this way, it reduces friction between moving parts and minimizes wear, saves maintenance costs, and improves overall machine performance.
