Caption: When the slides from an eight-ton plastic injection molding machine for the automotive rear shelf tool shown were coated with a tungsten carbide/carbon coating developed by Balzers Inc., Amherst, N.Y., rejection rates and production downtime were both reduced. Before the coating was applied to the slides, they had to be cleaned and lubricated every three to four days to keep parts from adhering to the mold.
