Middle-silicon ductile iron containing 3.9Si is just as corrosion resistant as gray iron with increased silicon content, but it has considerably better mechanical properties. During the 64th International Foundry Congress in Paris in 2000, L. E. Bjorkegren and K. Hamberg introduced a new grade of ductile iron, "middle silicon," with a nominal composition of 3.28C, 3.77Si, 0.23Mn, 0.016P.
The tensile strength (Rm) is 412.7 MPa, the yield strength (R0.2) is 371.4 MPa, the elongation (A5) is 18.3%, and the hardness is ~ 200 HB. They suggested that this iron could replace ...
