Tipping the scales at just 7 to 10kg (15 to 22 lb), these kayaks fold up into a backpack-sized unit that can be reassembled in about 15 minutes. The boats were developed to meet demand for "a folding kayak that performed and handled like a true kayak, and that was also light enough to be easily handled and carried by anyone," says Martin Ross, chief executive at FirstLight Kayaks, Christchurch, New Zealand.
