A micro heat pipe that wicks away heat from chips in laptop computers has reportedly been developed at Sandia National Laboratories, Albuquerque, N.M. The heat pipes are actually 60-micron deep channels etched along a thin plate of copper. Each heat source has its own channel, which leads to the edge of the computer.
