The primary mission of the Harrier II short take-off/vertical landing aircraft is to provide close air support to ground forces. Secondary missions include short range interdiction, fighter escort, deck launched intercept, and combat air patrol. The AV-8B Harrier II is an advanced Short Take Off/Vertical Landing (STOVL) jet fighter/attack aircraft that is co-produced by McDonnell Douglas Aircraft (now Boeing) and British Aerospace.
