The scanning electron microscope (SEM) plays a key role in the development of new products and materials, failure and contamination analysis, quality control, and routine inspection. Although SEM operation is easy to learn, the less-experienced operator may have difficulty in producing high-quality images.
By identifying the cause of image deficiencies, the operator can adjust the SEM settings or modify specimen preparation to rectify the problem and improve the image quality. Common image deficiencies include lack of sharpness, lack of smoothness, charging, damage, contamination, ...
