Shape-memory alloy tracks enable Mars rover to travel.(Metals)

A robotic micro-rover designed to travel the surface of Mars is said to move on tracks made of Nitinol (nickel-titanium) shape memory alloy. Scheduled to travel to Mars around the year 2010, the vehicle will weigh only 30 kg, and will be powered by sunlight. Its mission is to drill beneath the surface to search for microbes.
