Magnesium alloy resists high temperature in engine blocks.(Metals)

A heat-treatable sand cast magnesium alloy that is said to combine elevated-temperature mechanical properties with a cost-effective production process for engine blocks has been reported by CRC Cast Metals Manufacturing, Australia. Designated AMC-SC1, the alloy contains the rare earths lanthanum and cerium, which enable its high-temperature strength.
