Carbon fiber composite to replace glass in Corvette.(Polymers/Ceramics)

The hood for the 2004 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Commemorative Edition is to be constructed of a carbon composite, reports General Motors, Troy, Mich. The hood is composed of a thin outer carbon fiber/epoxy skin bonded to an inner hybrid structure made of carbon fiber sheet molding compound blended with low density glass-fiber sheet molding compound.
