A polyurethane elastomer that encapsulates solar module frames in a single operation, permanently protecting solar cells from moisture and dirt, is available from Bayer Polymers, Pittsburgh, Pa. Called Bayflex, the elastomer coating eliminates the need for a protective film, reduces capital investment costs, and enables the connecting socket to be incorporated into the frame.
