William D. Manly, FASM, 80, past CEO of Cabot Corp., a consultant for Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) and an honorary member of ASM, died on Nov. 22. A graduate of the University of Notre Dame, Manly began his business career as a metallurgist at ORNL, Nuclear Division, Union Carbide Corp., Oak Ridge, Tenn.

He served in a number of capacities, including director of the Gas-Cooled Reactor Program. [ILLUSTRATION OMITTED] In 1969, he was named general manager of the Stellite Division. When Stellite was purchased by Cabot in 1970, Manly remained as chief executive officer. ...
