Casting, machining, heat treating, welding, and similar technologies are the basis of manufacturing. They are the critical industries on which automotive, aircraft, chemical process equipment, and most other industries depend. However, these industries are mainly concentrated in small businesses, and many of them are closing because their costs are too high in the face of foreign competition.
