Mercury Marine has built the cowling of this Verado four-stroke outboard engine of several different DuPont polymers in 21 key parts. The vertically integrated in-line six-cylinder engine delivers up to 275 horsepower, and holds a three-star emission compliance rating from the California Air Resources Board.

The polymers reduce weight and cost, while combating corrosion. They also help to reduce noise, vibration, and harshness. The cowl assembly is made of 33% glass-reinforced Zytel nylon, and is shaped like a scoop measuring 580 mm ...
