Nanotractor tool measures friction on microscale.(Materials Science/R & D)

A nanotractor instrument that moves in nanometer size steps and provides detailed information about friction at the microscale has been developed at the National Nuclear Security Administration's Sandia National Laboratories, Albuquerque, N.M. The nanotractor is about the width of a human hair, and consists of a plate with a clamp at each end.
