Tannehill Ironworks, 1829-1865.(Stress Relief)

Tannehill Ironworks was designated an ASM Historic Landmark in 1994. The Tannehill Furnaces predate modern blast furnaces, so that charcoal and brown ore were burned instead of coke and red ore. The furnaces became a major producer of iron for the Confederacy during the Civil War, and were attacked by Union cavalry in March 1865.
