Extremely thin films of semiconducting materials that allow electrical charges to move through them about ten times more easily than reported for similar approaches have been designed at the IBM Almaden Research Center, White Plains, N.Y. The technology could make possible an array of low-cost electronics such as smart cards, sensors, and solar cells.
