Brian Rose, ArvinMeritor Columbus Technical Center, submitted the micrograph used for the ASM micrograph tie and scarf. Rose's micrograph was awarded second place in the artistic microscopy class in the 2003 International Metallographic Contest. The image is an as-cast weld deposit of a 409 stainless steel joint exhibiting large columnar ferrite grains with martensite occurring at the grain boundaries.
