A zirconia ceramic plunger has improved the performance, increased the reliability, and improved the durability of Cummins high-pressure diesel fuel systems, reports Carpenter Advanced Ceramics, Auburn, Calif., a subsidiary of Carpenter Technology Corp., Reading, Pa. The ceramic is a magnesia partially stabilized zirconia grade known as ZrXGBP (grain boundary pinned).
