An adaptable, adjustable pin tool that expands the capabilities of the bobbin tool developed for friction stir welding (FSW) by TWI, Cambridge, England, has reportedly been invented at MTS Systems Corp., Eden Prairie, Minn. Called AdAPT, for Adaptable, Adjustable Pin Tool, the tool allows three types of FSW: fixed pin, adjustable pin, and self-reacting pin.
