Changes in bulk aluminum filmed in three dimensions.(Materials Science/R & D)
Advanced Materials & Processes, October, 2004
Changes in the bulk properties of deformed aluminum after it has been annealed have been filmed in three dimensions by researchers using synchrotron radiation at Riso National Laboratory in Denmark and the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF) in France. The X-rays in the synchrotron radiation showed that the grains of aluminum grow very irregularly during annealing, a finding that contradicts the previously held idea that the grains grow smoothly along a regular path.
