Diamondlike carbon (DLC) is an amorphous material with a high fraction of [sp.sup.3]-hybridized carbon atoms. DLC thin films have been considered for orthopaedic, cardiovascular, and biosensor implants because they exhibit hardness, wear resistance, and chemical inertness properties close to those of diamond.
