George Vander Voort receives 2004 Sorby Award.(ASM NEWS)

Among the highlights at the 2004 IMS Convention in Savannah was the presentation of our society's highest honor, the Henry Clifton Sorby Award, which was given to long-time IMS member, colleague and friend of metallographers everywhere: George Vander Voort. [ILLUSTRATION OMITTED] Named for the father of "microscopic metallurgy," the Sorby Award was first presented by IMS in 1976.
