New generation of vehicles 99% cleaner than 30 years ago.(AUTOMOTIVE)

Automakers have worked with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to introduce a new generation of vehicles that are cleaner than ever. Now available in dealer showrooms, these model year 2004 vehicles are fully 99% cleaner than vehicles from 30 years ago, says the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers.
The new vehicles, called "Tier 2" cars and trucks, meet stringent tailpipe emission standards. Under the Tier 2 rules, both cars and light trucks, including all sport utility vehicles, pickups, vans, and minivans, must meet the same strict standards by model year 2009.
